| About MeMy name is Mark Nadin and I live in Deal, Kent a stones throw from the sea. I have only been turning since April of 99’ and have got the bug so bad that when my wife and children have nothing planned for me, I can be found at the bottom of the garden, covered in shavings, turning away to my hearts content At first all I wanted to make was a whipping top, but alas I still haven't got round to that one. At the start I did create lots of fire wood and with a little practice managed to make designer fire wood. Still I was told to carry on learning how to use the tools and with a little more practice started making things! Turning
wood is an experience each time you make something, you never get a second
chance as unlike clay on the potters wheel you don't get the opportunity to start
again with the same piece of material. Wood
itself is a very tactile and pleasant thing to hold, as it is warm to the touch
and the patterns of the grain and colour of the wood are never the same in any
two pieces. Woodturning
has been around as a craft for hundreds of years. The first lathes were called
pole lathes and were used in woods as they relied on the bough of a tree and
some twine to power them! Pole
lathes are still used by many people today and are often seen at country craft
fairs, however most people use an electric lathe that looks very similar to a
metal work lathe! I
would like to explain a little about woodturning and to show you some of the
equipment you need and what can be made. Contact InformationPlease feel free to call at anytime on
